The Prince, the Dragon, and My Possibly Wrong Opinion
Okay, let's talk The Little Prince. Everyone loves it. Right? It's sweet, insightful, and full of profound truths about life. But I have a confession: I kind of wish there was a dragon.
Bear with me! Not just any dragon. I'm talking an eight-headed, fire-breathing, jewel-hoarding kind of dragon. Maybe he lives on a teeny-tiny asteroid all his own.
Asteroid B-612-ish... Plus One Very Large Reptile
Imagine the little prince floating through space and landing, not on the lonely asteroid of a king, but on the lair of Yamata no Orochi. Or maybe a friendly version of it. He just needs a friend, maybe.
Instead of discussing authority with a monarch, he'd have a philosophical debate with eight very different personalities. Each head with its own opinion on the meaning of life. That sounds way more fun, right?
I know, I know. It's sacrilege! But think about the possibilities! The fox could teach the dragon how to be tamed (eight times over). The baobabs could be even more terrifying as dragon snacks.
The Life Lessons, Dragon Edition
Think of the life lessons! Instead of just focusing on seeing with your heart, he could learn about sharing. Eight hungry mouths are hard to feed. And think of the dental hygiene involved!
He could teach the dragon the importance of cherishing things, even if they're shiny and stolen from passing comets. He could learn that even scary monsters need love. Let's be honest, that dragon needed love.
The pilot could still crash in the desert. But imagine him being rescued, not by a tiny prince, but by a ridiculously large dragon who's learned to care. Now that's a twist!
Okay, Maybe I'm Being Ridiculous
Of course, The Little Prince is perfect as it is. It's a classic for a reason. Antoine de Saint-Exupéry was a genius. But a little bit of dragon mischief wouldn't hurt, right?
Perhaps the dragon is a metaphor! For conquering our own fears, or defeating those eight heads of self-doubt! See? It all comes back around.
I bet Saint-Exupéry would have at least considered it. Okay, probably not. But a girl can dream of princes and dragons becoming best friends. That's all I'm saying.
The Dragon's Unpopular Opinion
Maybe the dragon secretly wanted to tend a rose garden. Perhaps his fire breath could scorch away the weeds. We just don't know!
Maybe the Little Prince, instead of returning to his asteroid, would ride off on the dragon's back. Together, they'd spread love and fire across the galaxy.
So, next time you read The Little Prince, just picture a little dragon lurking in the background. Maybe he's just hiding behind a baobab. You'll never look at it the same way again.
