Okay, let's talk about The Promised Neverland Season 2. Specifically, that first episode. You know, the one we were all hyped for? Yeah, that one.
Remember the anticipation? The cliffhanger from season one had us all on the edge. We were ready for some serious demon-dodging action.
Then...well, then it aired.
Unpopular Opinion Incoming!
I'm just going to say it: I didn't hate it. Gasp! I know, I know, prepare the pitchforks. But hear me out before you unleash the fury.
Maybe, just maybe, it wasn't as bad as the internet made it out to be. Or maybe my expectations were already subterranean. Either way, I survived.
Seriously, were we expecting Game of Thrones levels of perfection? I mean, it's anime. Sometimes, things get a little weird. Or a lot weird.
Escape from Grace Field 2.0
The kids are still escaping, which is good. Remember Emma, Ray, and Norman... oh wait, maybe not so much Norman yet?
They're running through the forest. They are trying to not get eaten. That’s the Promised Neverland formula we all know and (kinda) love.
Let's be honest, those demons are *terrifying*. Full stop.
And that creepy grandma demon? Nightmare fuel for days. I wouldn't want to meet her at a bake sale, let alone in a dark forest.
Okay, maybe the pacing felt a little rushed. I agree, things happened *fast*. Like, warp-speed-ahead fast.
The Temple Shenanigans
Then they stumble upon this mysterious temple. Of course, they do. It's anime, after all.
This temple is full of secrets and weird markings. It is the perfect set-up for some spooky demon lore. Or at least, that's what it *should* have been.
But it's got a friendly-ish demon inside? I will admit, Mujika and Sonju felt a little...convenient.
Like, "Hey kids, we're totally safe demons! Don't worry about the whole eating-humans thing." Yeah, right. My trust levels were at an all-time low.
Maybe that's why I wasn't completely outraged. I was already suspicious of everything. Prepare for disappointment, and you're less likely to *be* disappointed. Right?
So, Was It REALLY That Bad?
Look, I'm not saying it was perfect. It definitely had its flaws. Pacing, convenient plot points, and maybe a slight deviation from the source material...
But it kept me entertained for 20-ish minutes. And that's all I ask for sometimes. Honestly.
Plus, the animation was still pretty good. Those backgrounds are gorgeous, even if the story gets a little wonky.
Maybe I'm just easily pleased. Or maybe everyone else is being too harsh. Or maybe, just maybe, we can all agree to disagree.
But hey, at least we're all talking about it, right? The Promised Neverland got people riled up. Good or bad, that is something!
So, give it another watch. Maybe you'll find something you missed the first time. Or maybe you'll just reaffirm your hatred. Either way, happy watching!
