Okay, let's talk about The Walking Dead Season 7. Specifically, its episode count.
Sixteen episodes. A seemingly standard number for many shows. But was it really necessary?
My Unpopular Opinion: Season 7 Was Too Long!
Don't get me wrong, I love zombies. And I spent years devoted to the show.
But Season 7 felt… stretched. Like they took a stick of chewing gum and pulled it until it was see-through.
Was it just me? Did anyone else feel like we spent way too long staring at Negan and Lucille?
The Infamous Premiere: A Gruesome Start
The premiere. Oh boy, the premiere. We all remember it.
It was brutal. Gut-wrenching. But was it sixteen episodes worth of emotional payoff?
Honestly, that episode probably scarred half the audience. I needed therapy just to get through the week!
The Pacing Problem: Where Did All the Walkers Go?
Remember when The Walking Dead was, you know, about… walkers?
Season 7 felt more like a political drama than a zombie apocalypse. Less brain-eating, more backstabbing.
And while the political intrigue was interesting at times, it dragged. So. Much.
Filler, Filler Everywhere!
Okay, I'm not saying every episode was bad. But some felt… unnecessary.
Like they were just filling time until the next big Negan showdown. Remember the episodes focusing on random groups of survivors?
I swear some of them were just designed to sell more action figures. I'm only half-kidding!
Could It Have Been Better?
Absolutely! Imagine if Season 7 had been, say, twelve episodes instead of sixteen.
Tighter pacing. Less filler. More focused character development (instead of just focusing on Negan's awesomeness!).
We could have skipped some of the meandering subplots and gotten straight to the good stuff.
The Negan Factor: Love Him or Hate Him?
Negan, played by the amazing Jeffrey Dean Morgan, was definitely a force to be reckoned with.
But did we need sixteen episodes of him swinging Lucille and monologuing? I'm not so sure.
His presence dominated the season, and while he was a compelling villain, it felt like other characters were sidelined because of it.
A Call for Brevity: Less Is More
Look, I understand that TV shows need to make money. And more episodes mean more advertising revenue.
But sometimes, less is more. A shorter, more focused season would have had a bigger impact.
Think about it: fewer episodes, higher quality. Maybe more walkers!
Final Thoughts: Still a Fan (Sort Of)
Despite my complaints, I'm still a fan of The Walking Dead. I wouldn't have watched it for so many years if I wasn't.
But Season 7… it's definitely a mixed bag. A bag filled with both zombie guts and filler episodes.
Maybe I'm just being dramatic. But I truly believe it could have been shorter, sweeter, and a whole lot scarier. Sixteen episodes just felt like overkill (no pun intended).
So, who's with me? Am I the only one who thinks Season 7 was too long? Or are there other Walking Dead fans out there who agree?
