Okay, let’s talk This Is Us. Season 6, Episode 2 specifically. And more specifically, the music!
Anyone else feel like their Spotify playlist was personally curated by the show’s music supervisor? They always nail it.
The Soundtrack of Our Tears (and Nostalgia)
Let's be honest. This show turns on the waterworks like a faucet. The music just cranks it up another notch.
Remember that *one* song that made you reach for the tissues? Yeah, me too. Probably several songs, actually.
"Unpopular" Opinion Alert!
Here's where I might step on some toes. I thought some of the music choices, while good, felt… a *tad* predictable?
Hear me out! This Is Us has a history of surprising us with deep cuts and emotional needle drops. This episode leaned a little safe.
Don't get me wrong! I still cried. I just wasn't *blown away* like I have been in previous seasons.
Anyone else think the montage music in season 4 episode 9 was better? Maybe that's just me!
The Power of a Well-Placed Song
Regardless of my mild criticism, the music in *This Is Us* is undeniably powerful. It adds so much depth to the scenes.
It's like the musical equivalent of a perfectly timed facial expression from Mandy Moore.
Think about it. Can you imagine certain scenes *without* the music? Nope! It's practically a character itself.
And it perfectly matches the time-period in this case. The 80s and 90s had some great tunes!
Kevin's Theme
Did anyone notice the particular songs playing during Kevin's storyline? Felt like a specific theme was being played there!
A theme around regret and lost time maybe? What do you think? I am here for the character development.
Maybe I am reading too much into it, but I enjoy trying to interpret what the music is trying to suggest.
Jack and Rebecca's Jukebox
The music during Jack and Rebecca's scenes? Pure gold. Always takes me back. I love their flashback scenes.
It's like stepping into a time machine. And all of the old songs remind me of when Jack and Rebecca were together.
Their relationship is probably the best part of the entire series, and makes the music all that more meaningful.
What I *Really* Wanted To Hear
Okay, confession time. I was secretly hoping for a specific song. Something super obscure and emotionally devastating.
Maybe a deep cut from a 70s folk singer? Or a forgotten 80s power ballad? I just love those songs!
A girl can dream, right? Maybe in a future episode. I look forward to seeing what songs they choose.
Final Thoughts (and Maybe Another Cry)
Overall, the music in This Is Us Season 6, Episode 2 was… good. Solid. Emotional. Made me cry. You can't deny that!
But maybe, just *maybe*, it could have been even *more* groundbreaking and surprising.
What songs did you hear? Which ones did you like? Let me know what songs *you* wanted to hear!
In the end, I am not complaining. I am excited to continue watching the final season, and see what songs the rest of the episodes contain!
And bring your tissues! You'll probably need them.
