Okay, let's talk Transformers: War For Cybertron Trilogy - Kingdom. Season 3 of the Netflix show. We need to discuss this. I have feelings. Possibly controversial ones.
Beast Wars? More Like Beast... Concerns
Remember Beast Wars? Awesome, right? Robots turning into animals was a stroke of genius. It was wild and surprisingly funny. Season 3 felt... different.
Like, were we watching the same franchise? Where was the fun? Why so serious, robots?
The Grim Darkness of the Far Future (and the Present)
So much doom and gloom! The original Transformers cartoon was about robots fighting, sure. But it also had heart. There was silliness. Where did that go?
Everything felt so heavy. Optimus Prime, bless his spark, spent the whole season looking stressed. Who can blame him though? It was stressful to watch too!
And the stakes! Always the highest stakes imaginable. Earth's existence, the universe itself... Maybe dial it back a notch, guys?
Unpopular Opinion Alert!
Here it comes. The thing I'm almost afraid to say. I... didn't love the Beast Wars characters. I know, I know! Heresy!
But hear me out! They felt... tacked on. Like they were only there to sell toys. Nostalgia bait at its finest.
I wanted more of the original crew. More Optimus, more Megatron, more Starscream backstabbing shenanigans. Is that too much to ask?
Dinobot: The One Exception
Okay, maybe I liked Dinobot. Just a little. He's a cool guy. (Dino-bot? Get it?) He was noble. He had a good arc.
But he was surrounded by... well, other characters. Characters I didn't connect with as much. Sorry, not sorry.
The Animation... Ugh
The animation style was something. It was detailed. And it was also kind of... lifeless?
The robots looked like plastic toys. Which, okay, they are, technically. But they didn't feel alive. The movements were clunky. It lacked that cartoonish charm.
I missed the expressive faces from the original show. All those dramatic zooms and close ups! That's what I call *robots in disguise*!
Time Travel Troubles
Time travel is tricky. Always. Someone always messes it up. And Season 3... well, it didn't quite nail it.
Things got confusing. What were the stakes again? Did anything actually matter? My brain started to hurt.
I just wanted a simple robots-fighting-each-other-with-cool-transformations story! Is that really so wrong?
So, What's the Verdict?
Kingdom wasn't terrible. Just... disappointing. Especially after the initial excitement for the whole trilogy.
It tried to do too much, maybe. Beast Wars plus time travel plus existential dread? It just didn't quite gel for me.
Maybe I'm just a grumpy old Transformers fan. But I wanted more of what made the original great. Fun, heart, and robots who actually seemed like they were enjoying themselves (even when they were fighting).
I know that's like, totally against the War For Cybertron vibe, but c'mon! We need Optimus Prime smile more often!
Ultimately, it's all subjective. Maybe you loved Kingdom! And that's totally fine. But for me? It was a bit of a letdown.
