Okay, let's talk Slime. You know, That Time I Got Reincarnated as a Slime? It's EVERYWHERE. And honestly? I have some *thoughts*.
Don’t get me wrong, I enjoy a good isekai. Who doesn't love watching someone stumble into a new world with crazy powers?
The "OP" Protagonist Problem
But Rimuru? Rimuru Tempest? He's kinda...too good at everything. From the start.
He gobbles up a dragon (Veldora! Don't forget him!), and suddenly he's got all these abilities. Absorbing skills is his thing, I get it. It just feels a little... easy, maybe?
Is it *too* smooth sailing?
Seriously, is there anyone who thinks that Tempest is not the most broken main character?
I get the power fantasy thing. Trust me, I do. But sometimes, I want to see a bit more struggle. A few more setbacks.
Like, remember when he was just a blob? A tiny, blue... thing? Good times. He could barely see!
The Endless Power-Ups
He's constantly leveling up. Absorbing new abilities. It's like, cool, another power. Neat. Next!
Where's the suspense? Where's the genuine fear that he might *actually* lose a fight? I’m waiting for the real big bad!
I start to think there is always some convenient solution to everything. Anyone else with me?
The Adorable Minions... I Mean, Citizens
Okay, the characters are cute. The goblins, the dwarves, even Benimaru with his fiery hair. Adorable, right?
They all just adore Rimuru. They follow him blindly. It's sweet, sure, but sometimes it feels a little...forced. A little like a cult following.
Anyone want to say “Long Live Rimuru-Sama”? No, just me? Okay, move on!
The Politics of Slime
The world-building is good. The different factions, the various kingdoms. I appreciate that.
But sometimes the political stuff gets a little dense. I find myself zoning out during the long meetings and treaty negotiations. I know it's important. My brain says "nope".
Sorry, Tempest. Maybe if it was a little less "boring exposition" and more "epic battle"?
Am I Alone Here?
Look, I know Slime is popular. Ridiculously popular. Everyone loves it. That’s why I have something to say about that.
And that’s why I think maybe I’m not the audience for this anime. Maybe I just prefer my isekai a little more...difficult. A little more gritty.
Does anyone else feel this way? Am I shouting into the void? I’m totally prepared to be wrong here, tell me what you like about it!
Don't get me wrong, the anime isn’t horrible, it’s entertaining. But for me it’s too smooth of a ride.
