Okay, let's talk about This Is Us. Specifically, Season 5, Episode 4. "Honestly" is a bit of a rollercoaster.
It’s one of those episodes where you’re reaching for the tissues. Then, you are also shaking your head at some of the decisions.
The College Tour That Never Was
Remember when Randall and Beth went to visit Howard? It felt like a fun college tour. Except, well, Randall was mostly focused on himself.
I love Randall, I really do. But sometimes he's a little too...Randall. You know what I mean?
Beth, as always, was the MVP. She's so supportive. Can we all just agree she needs a spin-off?
Unpopular Opinion Time!
Okay, here’s my potentially controversial take. I didn't think the Howard storyline was that compelling.
It felt a bit disconnected from everything else. Sorry, not sorry!
Maybe it's just me. I am just being honest.
Kevin’s Hollywood Dreams
Meanwhile, back in sunny California, Kevin is being Kevin. He is charming. He is also a little clueless.
His scenes with Madison were...interesting. Is she really the one for him?
I’m not entirely convinced. I am seeing where this is going, and am a bit concerned.
More Unpopular Opinions!
I’m starting to think Kevin is better off alone. Hear me out!
He needs to figure out himself before committing to someone else. He is always trying too hard, in my opinion.
Don't get me wrong, I adore him. But his love life? A mess!
Kate's Struggle, Toby's Guilt
Kate and Toby are always a recipe for drama. Their storyline with Ellie was especially poignant.
Toby's guilt was palpable. I felt bad for him. Then again, is it really his fault?
It is complicated. So complicated.
A Slightly Less Unpopular Opinion
I’m not entirely sold on this adoption storyline. It has some heartwarming moments.
But it also feels a bit forced at times. Is it just me?
Maybe I just need more time to warm up to Ellie.
The Jack and Rebecca Flashbacks
The flashback with Jack and Rebecca, were the heart of the episode. You always love seeing them young.
Their struggles with teenage Kate were relatable. Every parent has been there.
Those scenes made me miss Jack even more.
My Final Thoughts
Overall, "Honestly" was a decent episode. It had its ups and downs.
Some storylines resonated. Others fell a bit flat.
But hey, that's This Is Us for you. Always keeping us on our toes!
I will definitely be tuning in for the next one. Even if I'm just complaining the whole time.
How about you? Do you agree with my hot takes?
