So, you're thinking about diving into the world of Apple TV+? Maybe you got a free trial with that new iPhone. Or perhaps you’re just plain curious.
The Big Names Everyone Talks About
Let's start with the headliners. You know, the shows that get all the buzz. Prepare yourself, because I'm about to drop some (potentially) controversial opinions.
Ted Lasso: Is It Really That Great?
Everyone and their grandma raves about Ted Lasso. It's heartwarming, they say. It’s full of folksy wisdom, they exclaim. And sure, it is...mostly.
But after a few episodes, I started feeling like I was drowning in saccharine. Maybe I'm just a grumpy Gus, but I needed a bit more bite! Still, Jason Sudeikis is undeniably charming.
Severance: Mind-Bending and...Slow?
Severance is definitely cool. The concept is super intriguing. Lumon Industries? Creepy vibes all around.
But, and this is a big but, sometimes I felt like I was waiting for paint to dry. I mean, the suspense is great, but the pacing could be snappier.
The Morning Show: Drama, Drama, Drama!
Okay, I'll admit it. I'm a sucker for workplace drama. And The Morning Show delivers it in spades.
Jennifer Aniston and Reese Witherspoon are fantastic. They’re basically yelling at each other in designer clothes. What's not to love?
Hidden Gems (Maybe?)
Now for the shows that don't always make the headlines. These are the ones you might stumble upon while browsing, and be pleasantly surprised.
Mythic Quest: Gaming and Goofiness
If you're even remotely interested in video games, give Mythic Quest a shot. It’s hilarious and surprisingly insightful.
It's like It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia, but set in a game studio. Seriously, try it. You might find your new favorite show.
For All Mankind: What If the Space Race Never Ended?
This show is for all the space nerds out there (myself included!). For All Mankind explores an alternate history.
Imagine if the Soviets had landed on the moon first. The space race intensifies! It’s a cool premise, and the show is well-made. Prepare for some tense moments.
Shrinking: Therapy and Laughs
Shrinking stars Jason Segel as a therapist who decides to just tell his patients exactly what he thinks. Predictably, chaos ensues.
It’s funny and surprisingly heartwarming. It's a solid show for when you want something lighthearted but not totally brainless.
The "Meh" Category (My Unpopular Opinions Continue)
Let's be honest, not everything on Apple TV+ is a winner. Here are a couple that just didn't do it for me.
Foundation: Visually Stunning, But...
Foundation is based on the classic sci-fi novels. Visually, it's breathtaking. But the story felt a bit convoluted. Or maybe I’m just easily confused.
Maybe I'm not smart enough for it, but I struggled to stay engaged. Beautiful to look at, though.
Invasion: Slow Burn Turns into No Burn?
Invasion promised a thrilling alien invasion story. Instead, I got a slow-burn drama with very little alien action for a long time.
I get building suspense, but this felt more like stalling. Sorry, aliens, you lost my interest.
So, Is Apple TV+ Worth It?
Ultimately, that's up to you. Apple TV+ has some great shows. It also has some...less great shows. Like any streaming service.
My advice? Take advantage of that free trial. Watch a few episodes of the shows that pique your interest. And decide for yourself if it's worth the subscription.
Just don't let anyone pressure you into loving Ted Lasso if you don't. It's okay to have your own opinions!
