What The Hell Are You Doing Here

Seriously, look around. Like, *really* look. Are you sitting at your desk, pretending to work while scrolling through cat videos? I bet you are. Or maybe you're sprawled on the couch, remote in hand, navigating the endless abyss of streaming services. I know this game well.

Perhaps you're stuck in traffic, the symphony of honking horns your personal soundtrack. Don't tell me you are enjoying it! Or, even more daring, maybe you're standing in line at the grocery store, contemplating the existential dread of choosing between organic and non-organic broccoli. The possibilities of your current state of existence are endless, and mildly depressing.

Embrace the Absurdity!

Whatever you're doing, I want you to take a moment. Just a tiny little moment. A moment to appreciate the sheer, unadulterated ridiculousness of it all. You are here. On this planet. Right now. In this situation. How wild is that?

Think about all the things that had to happen for you to be reading these words. From the Big Bang to your parents' questionable life choices, it's a cosmic miracle. You were destined to be here, doing whatever weird thing you're doing right now. I mean, the chances are close to zero.

The Broccoli Paradox

Let's go back to that broccoli, shall we? You're standing there, agonizing over whether to spend the extra two dollars for the organic stuff. Will it change your life? Probably not. Will it make you feel slightly superior to the person reaching for the regular broccoli? Maybe. Who knows!

The point is, in the grand scheme of things, it doesn't really matter. But it matters to you, in this moment. You are fully engaged in the epic saga of grocery shopping. This is what you are doing! Don't you dare underestimate the importance.

And maybe, just maybe, that's the key. To find the extraordinary in the ordinary. To embrace the chaos. To laugh at the fact that you're spending your precious time on this earth debating the merits of cruciferous vegetables. I am also, by the way, contemplating that.

So, What Next?

Okay, so you've acknowledged the absurdity. You've contemplated the broccoli. Now what? Well, you get to keep doing it! Keep existing! Keep choosing! Keep being wonderfully, hilariously, you.

Don't worry about figuring out the "meaning of life" just yet. That's a project for another Tuesday. For today, just enjoy the ride. Whatever crazy, mundane, utterly unique ride you're on.

Go back to your cats. Contemplate broccoli. Stare in dismay at the highway. Just make sure you are doing it with a sense of amusement. After all, that is what life is all about.
