Okay, let's talk about What We Do in the Shadows. On FX. Because it's a thing. And I have THOUGHTS.
Is it Just Me...?
Does anyone else think it's maybe...overrated? Now, hold on! Don't sharpen your stakes and torches just yet. Hear me out.
I know, I know. It's hilarious. The mockumentary style is genius. And the characters? Classic.
The Charm is Undeniable
Nandor the Relentless, the hopelessly devoted leader. Laszlo Cravensworth, the flamboyant, er, scientist? And Nadja, the sarcastic and perpetually unimpressed vampire queen. What's not to love?
Not to mention Guillermo. The long-suffering familiar who is secretly a Van Helsing descendent. Peak comedy!
But here's my unpopular opinion. The jokes are starting to feel a bit...samey. Are they running out of ideas?
The Repeating Cycle
Every episode is pretty much the same formula, isn't it? Vampires try to be modern. Vampires fail miserably. Hilarity ensues.
It's funny, sure. The first few times. But now? It feels like they're just hitting the same beats over and over.
Don't get me wrong, I still chuckle. Colin Robinson, the energy vampire, is always a reliable source of awkward humor. The way he drains people's energy is very funny!
The Guest Stars!
And let's not forget the guest stars. They are often amazing. But even they can't always save a stale plot.
The cameos from other famous vampires (and vampire hunters) are fantastic! They bring a fresh energy to the show, for an episode.
But is that enough? Are celebrity cameos the answer to flagging creativity? I am not so sure. I believe it just papers over cracks.
Is it Still Funny, or Just Familiar?
Maybe it's just me. Maybe I'm just being a grumpy human. Maybe I expected too much from *What We Do in the Shadows*.
I remember when it first came out. I was obsessed! I told all my friends. It was groundbreaking comedy.
But now? I watch it more out of habit than genuine excitement. Is that just me, or has the show lost its bite?
Don't Get Me Wrong...
I'm not saying it's terrible! What We Do in the Shadows is still a well-made show.
The actors are brilliant. The writing is clever. The production value is high. But something is missing.
Maybe it needs a shake-up. A new direction. Maybe a love triangle (or pentagon, given the cast!). Just something to spice things up a bit.
Final Thoughts (Before the Sun Rises)
So, there you have it. My possibly blasphemous opinion on *What We Do in the Shadows*. I still watch it. And I still enjoy it. Sort of.
But I can't help but feel like it could be so much more. Am I alone here? Let me know!
And if you disagree, that's totally fine. Maybe I just need to drink some human blood and lighten up a little.
After all, as Nadja would say, "Life is short, and then you die... or become a vampire."
