Okay, let's talk What We Do In The Shadows. Specifically, Season 1, Episode 7: "The Trial."
The Trial... A Little Underwhelming?
Now, before you sharpen your stakes and come for me, hear me out. This episode is good, don't get me wrong. But is it *peak* What We Do In The Shadows? I'm not so sure.
Everyone's excited because all these famous vampires show up. We see people like Tilda Swinton! But did their cameos really add that much?
So Many Vampires, So Little Impact?
Having a bunch of famous vampires is cool in theory. But in practice, it felt a little... rushed. Were they really integral to the story?
They're just sitting there for the most part! Their presence is more name-dropping than anything else.
Like, cool, there's Evan Rachel Wood. Neat, right?
The Humor Still Landed, Though
Let's be fair. The core humor of What We Do In The Shadows is still present. Nadja and Laszlo's banter is always gold.
Guillermo's constant exasperation remains relatable. Even if you're not a vampire familiar, you know that feeling of being unappreciated.
And Nandor? Well, Nandor is just Nandor. Endlessly devoted and utterly clueless.
The Verdict: Guilty of Being... Good, But Not Great?
The plot itself revolves around the vampires being put on trial. The reason is some transgression they committed.
The High Council feels like a natural progression for the show. Building the show's lore.
But does the trial deliver the comedic punch it promises? In my humble opinion... not entirely. The tension is lacking.
Guillermo, the Unsung Hero (Again)
The episode does give us some classic Guillermo moments. The ever-reliable familiar is key.
His reactions to the vampire shenanigans are consistently hilarious. He's the audience surrogate, always.
He's secretly the best character, let's be real.
Unpopular Opinion Time: The Episode is Fine
So, here's the thing. "The Trial" isn't a bad episode. It's enjoyable. It's funny. It's got vampires.
But compared to other episodes in the season, it just feels a little... average. And maybe that's okay!
Maybe I'm being too harsh. Maybe the hype got to me. All I'm saying is, I wasn't blown away.
Don't Stake Me!
Look, I love What We Do In The Shadows. I'm just offering a (possibly) controversial take.
What do you think? Am I completely off base? Let me know!
Maybe I need to rewatch it...with more garlic bread.
