Okay, let's talk What We Do In The Shadows Season 2. I have some thoughts. Some might call them *unpopular* thoughts. But hey, isn’t that the fun of it all?
Season 2: A Mildly Controversial Take
Season 1 was, let’s be real, lightning in a bottle. Absolute perfection. How could Season 2 even compare? Well, it tried.
The Charm, Still There (Mostly)
The core cast remains hilarious. Nandor, Nadja, Laszlo and Colin Robinson are comedic gold. Their dynamic is still the heart of the show. And Guillermo, bless his heart, is still trying his best.
The guest stars are phenomenal. Haley Joel Osment as Nadja and Laszlo's familiar, Jenna, was genius! The cameos are consistently brilliant. I especially loved Mark Hamill's appearance.
But... Something Was Off?
Okay, here’s where I might lose some of you. I felt Season 2 became a bit *too* reliant on the cameos. Were they great? Yes. Did they sometimes distract from the main plot? Maybe a little.
The focus felt… scattered at times. Season 1 had a clear-ish arc, with the Baron's visit. Season 2 felt more episodic. Which isn’t *always* a bad thing, but it changed the vibe.
Maybe I wanted a little more story depth. I wanted to see more about their lives, their struggles, their hilarious failures. I felt some of it was missed.
The *Jackie Daytona* Phenomenon
Let’s address the elephant in the room: Jackie Daytona. I know, I know, people *love* Jackie Daytona. And Taika Waititi directing! It's like comedy crack.
It's funny! Matt Berry's acting is phenomenal. I cannot disagree with this.
But… was it *too* much? Did it overshadow some of the other storylines? Possibly! Maybe just me but I feel it takes away the rest of the season.
Colin Robinson: A Standout
Okay, time for some pure, unadulterated praise. Colin Robinson absolutely shined in Season 2. Mark Proksch is a comedic genius.
His evolution was fascinating. His energy-sucking abilities reaching new heights. His quest to understand his origins? Hilarious and strangely touching.
Every scene with Colin Robinson was a gem. Truly the best character. Don’t even argue with me on this.
Guillermo's Growth
Guillermo, played by Harvey Guillén, continued his slow-burn rebellion. He's the underdog we all root for.
His vampire hunting skills became even more apparent. His frustration with the vampires was palpable. Season 2 gave him some great moments.
His story is actually becoming really interesting. I cannot wait for what is next.
Final Verdict (Unpopular Edition)
Look, I still enjoyed Season 2. Any What We Do In The Shadows is better than no What We Do In The Shadows.
But it didn’t quite reach the heights of Season 1, for me. Maybe it tried to hard to be funny, too much cameo.
Ultimately, it's still a hilarious show. The characters are fantastic. I will still watch every new episode the second it drops. But Season 1 just hits different.
Don't @ me.
