Alright, settle in, fellow comedy enthusiasts! Let's talk about something vital. Something that impacts our weekends. I'm talking about Saturday Night Live, people!
The burning question on everyone's lips (or at least, on *my* lips, and probably yours too if you're reading this): When does the new season of SNL actually start in 2021?
The Great SNL Season 47 Mystery
Figuring out the exact start date feels like trying to predict the weather. It changes! It teases! It keeps us guessing. It's like Lorne Michaels enjoys the suspense.
Historically, we're looking at late September or early October. That’s the typical window. Season 46 premiered on October 3rd, 2020. So, that gives us a ballpark.
But 2021, oh 2021, was it any different? Did things change yet again? Keep reading and find out!
The Official Answer (Finally!)
Drumroll please… the season premiere for SNL in 2021 (Season 47!) was October 2, 2021. Whew, that was close to a standard fall return, wasn’t it?
They didn't stray too far from their usual timeframe. They still kept us on our toes though! Was I the only one constantly refreshing the SNL website?
And who hosted the premiere? Was it someone amazing?
Season 47 Kickoff: A Star-Studded Affair
Owen Wilson hosted the first episode of Season 47. Musical guest was Kacey Musgraves. A solid start, if I do say so myself!
Wilson had only hosted the show once previously. He brought a relaxed, humorous vibe to the show.
I think this made for a very likeable start to the season.
My (Potentially Unpopular) SNL Opinion
Okay, brace yourselves. Here comes a potentially controversial opinion. I think SNL is at its best when it surprises us.
Not just with celebrity cameos. But with fresh new talent and unpredictable sketches. Remember the Digital Shorts with Andy Samberg? Pure gold!
Sometimes the political humor feels a little… predictable. Don't get me wrong, it can be hilarious! But I crave more of the weird and unexpected. Give me more Stefon!
"This club is your dreams. It is everything." -Stefon
I want sketches that make me say, "What did I just watch?" in the best possible way. Is that too much to ask? Probably.
Looking Ahead: The Future of SNL
SNL is a comedy institution. It has been around for decades. It has shaped our cultural landscape. But can it stay fresh and relevant?
I think it can! It needs to keep evolving. Embrace new voices. Take risks.
But no matter what, I’ll be tuning in. Hoping for that one sketch that makes me laugh so hard I snort. Here's to many more seasons of laughter (and maybe a little cringing) to come!
