Okay, let's talk The Good Doctor. Season 5 was… eventful. And by eventful, I mean, people packed their bags! So, who exactly decided to leave St. Bonaventure?
Leaving the Nest: Saying Goodbye
First up, we have Asher Wolke. Played by the charming Noah Galvin, Asher kinda... left... well, not exactly the hospital. But he did leave medicine, temporarily, to reconnect with his faith.
I know, I know! Gasp! Did anyone else think it was a bit abrupt? Maybe just me? Don't get me wrong, Asher's a great character. But it felt like he had barely found his footing.
The Curious Case of Osler
Then there's Dr. Andrea Osler (played by Rachel Bay Jones). She was great! A real voice of experience.
But she didn't stick around for too long, did she? One minute she's mentoring, the next...poof! Gone.
Honestly, I almost forgot she was even there! Is that a hot take? Maybe. But hey, someone had to say it!
The Big Departure: Saying Farewell to a Favorite
Now, for the one that *really* stung. The departure of Dr. Claire Browne, played by the amazing Antonia Thomas. Ouch. Right in the feels.
Okay, I know she left at the end of Season 4. But she makes a brief reappearance in Season 5! It was more like a teasing cameo. Showing us what we were missing! Cruel, I say!
I'm still not over it, TBH. Don't @ me.
Unpopular Opinion Time
Here's where I might lose some of you. Are you ready? Buckle up.
Did The Good Doctor suffer a little from all these exits? Yes. But…did it also open doors for new storylines? Also yes.
Think about it! New characters mean new dynamics, new conflicts, new opportunities for Shaun to grow! Maybe.
Change is Inevitable, Right?
Look, I get it. We get attached to characters. Especially in a show like this, where we see them grow and change.
But sometimes, characters need to move on. For their own stories, or for the sake of the show's overall narrative. It's tough, but it's true.
Like,
"all things must pass". I heard George Harrison said that once.
The Show Must Go On...With New Faces
So, while it was sad to see these doctors leave St. Bonaventure, maybe, just maybe, it was for the best.
Okay, maybe *best* is a strong word. But perhaps *necessary*? Or maybe just *different*? We can’t pretend that shows don’t change to keep our interest.
Plus, it gives us something to talk about, right? Which is what we’re doing right now, so…mission accomplished?
Ultimately, The Good Doctor continues. And who knows? Maybe some of these familiar faces will return someday. We can only hope!
Until then, we'll keep watching, keep judging (a little), and keep wondering who's going to scrub in next. It will keep us coming back for more!
