So, everyone's asking the big question. Will The Handmaid's Tale return? Is Gilead getting another season pass on our screens?
Honestly, I'm not entirely sure I want it to. Don't get me wrong, I was hooked at first.
But...Hear Me Out!
Is it just me, or has the plot thickened...a little too much? Like, gravy that's been simmering since the dawn of time thickened. You know?
The drama started strong. June Osborne, played brilliantly by Elisabeth Moss, was fighting the good fight. A real rebel with a cause (and a bonnet).
Season after season...the fight just seemed to get, well, repetitive. Didn't it? Escape, capture, escape, near-capture...rinse and repeat.
Is It Time to Say Goodbye to Gilead?
Maybe. I'm starting to think we've seen all the variations on dystopia that Gilead can offer. It's like that one friend who only tells the same three stories at every party.
Remember the shock and awe of the early seasons? The chilling atmosphere? The sheer horror of it all?
Now? It feels...familiar. Too familiar, maybe. Like a slightly uncomfortable, slightly predictable, family dinner.
I'm not saying the acting isn't still top-notch. Everyone delivers incredible performances. Yvonne Strahovski's Serena Joy is a villain for the ages!
But even the best actors can only do so much with a story that feels like it's spinning its wheels. Do you agree?
Plus, let's be honest. Some of the plot twists have been a bit...out there. Like, jumping-the-shark out there. Okay, maybe not that extreme. But close.
Remember that one thing that happened with that one character? I'm trying to avoid spoilers, but you know what I mean. Right?
A Controversial Opinion, Perhaps?
I know, I know. I'm probably going to get some hate mail for this. The Handmaid's Tale has a massive and dedicated fanbase. I respect that!
I was one of you! I binged the first few seasons like they were oxygen. But, I think the ending might have been the ending.
Maybe it's better to leave us wanting more. Leave us with the lingering dread and the unanswered questions. Than stretch it so thin that it loses its impact.
Think of your favorite TV shows. Some ended perfectly. Some limped on for far too long.
I'd hate to see The Handmaid's Tale fall into the latter category.Wouldn't you?
So, Will There Be Another Season?
Honestly, I have no idea. The powers that be at Hulu will decide. Money talks, and this show generates a LOT of buzz.
But personally? I'm kind of hoping they let June and co. find some peace. Or at least, find some closure.
And maybe, just maybe, let us all move on to a slightly less depressing TV show for a while. My therapist would thank them, for sure.
So, what do you think? Am I completely off base? Or are you secretly feeling a bit of Handmaid's Tale fatigue too? Let me know!
