Did We Really Need More This Is Us? (Unpopular Opinion Alert!)
Okay, okay, before you grab your tissues and throw them at me, hear me out. This Is Us was a HUGE hit. We cried, we laughed, we yelled at our TVs. But did it *really* need a sixth season?
Let's be honest, the show became predictable. Flashbacks, flashforwards, someone having a crisis... rinse and repeat. Was that sixth season truly groundbreaking, or just more of the same emotional rollercoaster?
The Pearson Family: Enough is Enough?
The Pearson family's story was compelling, no doubt. We saw them grow, struggle, and love. But at some point, didn't it feel like they were running out of new problems?
How many times could Kate lose weight? Or Kevin find true love? Or Randall deal with anxiety? Seriously, were we just watching them recycle storylines?
I'm not saying the actors weren't amazing. They were! Milo Ventimiglia, Mandy Moore, the whole cast gave incredible performances. But even the best actors can't make a tired plot feel fresh.
"Sometimes, the sweetest stories are the ones that know when to end." - Me, just now.
The Flashback Frenzy
Oh, the flashbacks! They were charming at first, giving us glimpses into Jack and Rebecca's early days. But eventually, they became a crutch.
Whenever the present-day plot stalled, BAM! Flashback time! It felt like the writers were saying, "Oops, we have no ideas. Here's young Jack being adorable!"
And the flashforwards? Don't even get me started. Were they trying to predict the future, or just confuse us even more?
Emotional Manipulation: Is It Just Me?
Look, I'm not heartless. I teared up during This Is Us, just like everyone else. But sometimes, it felt... calculated. Like the show was deliberately trying to make us cry.
Cue the sad music, the lingering shots of tearful faces, the dramatic speeches. It was effective, sure. But also, a little exhausting.
Did we need another season of emotional gut punches? Maybe some of us were secretly hoping for a comedy about a family that just... got along.
Leaving Us Wanting More... Or Less?
Maybe the brilliance of ending at season five would have been leaving us wanting more. A little mystery, a little longing for the Pearson family. Instead of beating the story into the ground.
Six seasons is a long time to invest in a TV show. Especially one that consistently made us feel like we needed a therapy session afterward. Were we entertained, or just emotionally drained?
So, there you have it. My unpopular opinion: This Is Us maybe should have called it quits a little sooner. But hey, at least we have Netflix to rewatch the early seasons and remember the good times (before the plot got too convoluted). Right?
