Specifically, Escape to the House of Mummies Part 1. Yes, *that* one.

Mummies... Again?

Seriously, how many times did we encounter mummies in the Goosebumps universe? It felt like R.L. Stine had a bulk discount deal with a mummy warehouse.

And I’m not complaining... much. But, come on! Vampires, werewolves, alien blobs… the possibilities were endless!

But nope, back to Egypt we go! I can practically feel the sand in my shoes just thinking about it.

The Premise (That We All Knew)

A kid goes on vacation. They stumble upon something ancient and probably cursed. Mummies awaken. Hilarity (and mild terror) ensues.

Repeat ad nauseam. I mean, it worked, right? We kept reading them!

But, like, did these kids never learn? Did no one ever think, "Maybe I *won't* poke around that suspicious-looking sarcophagus?"

Why I Secretly Loved It (Don't Tell Anyone)

Despite my complaints, I devoured this book. It was pure, unadulterated, cheesy goodness. It was like eating a whole bag of candy corn in one sitting – bad for you, but oh-so-satisfying.

The sheer predictability was comforting. You knew there'd be a plot twist, a chase scene, and probably some questionable dialogue.

And, let's be honest, the mummies were pretty cool. Especially when they were chasing you! What is the worst that can happen?

Those Choose-Your-Own-Adventure Vibes

I really, REALLY enjoyed getting to choose my own adventure. Should I open this door? Should I trust that suspiciously friendly stranger? It was intense!

And the best part? Messing up and having to start over! “Oh, I got eaten by a mummy? Guess I'll try picking the *other* door this time."

The power! It was intoxicating. I felt like a master strategist... even though I was just randomly clicking choices.

But Seriously, the Mummies...

I still think they were overused. Give me a haunted amusement park or a creepy ventriloquist dummy any day!

Maybe it's just me. Maybe I'm the only one who felt mummy fatigue. Everyone else was probably perfectly content with their weekly dose of ancient Egyptian horror.

Don't get me wrong, the imagery was great. I can still picture the dusty tombs and the decaying bandages. But the novelty wore off, eventually!

Escape to the House of Mummies Part 1 wasn't the best Goosebumps book. But it wasn't the worst, either.

It was a perfectly acceptable, mummy-filled adventure that provided countless hours of entertainment. And maybe a few nightmares.

So, yeah, I might be slightly mummified-out. But I still wouldn't trade those Goosebumps memories for anything. Even a lifetime supply of anti-aging cream. Maybe.
