Turn on your TV. Don't forget this step! Seems obvious, I know, but you'd be surprised.
Remote Control Rumble
Grab your Roku remote. Where did you put it? It's always lost in the couch cushions, isn't it?
Select the correct HDMI input on your TV. Use your TV remote for this. It's the one you *always* know where it is.
Hopefully, you see the Roku startup screen. If not, double-check those cables. And maybe your sanity.
The Infamous AV Cable Option (Unpopular Opinion Alert!)
Okay, here's where I might lose some of you. Your Roku 2 XS also has AV outputs. Red, white, and yellow cables anyone?
Plug those into the corresponding ports on your TV. If your TV even has those ports anymore. They are kinda rare.
Now, here's my unpopular opinion: sometimes, on older TVs, the AV connection actually looks... okay. Dare I say, acceptable! *Gasp!* I know, I know, but it's true!
Don't @ me. Just saying, if HDMI isn't working, don't dismiss the AV cables out of hand, especially if you want to use older tv.
Wireless Woes (or Wins!)
Once your Roku is on, you'll need to connect to Wi-Fi. Prepare yourself. This can be the most stressful part.
Follow the on-screen instructions to find your network. Enter your password carefully. Typos are the enemy!
Cross your fingers. Hope it connects. If not, reboot everything. TV, Roku, router, your entire life.
HDMI Port Problems? I got you!
Ran out of HDMI ports? This happens to the best of us. It's a cord jungle back there.
Consider an HDMI switcher. It's a little box that lets you plug multiple devices into one HDMI port. Like magic!
Or, and this is a radical idea, unplug something else. Do you really need three DVD players connected at once?
