Shield Hero: An Unpopular Opinion You Might Just Agree With
Let's talk The Rising of the Shield Hero. We all know it. Some of us love it. Some of us... well, let's just say feelings are mixed.
But I have a confession. A maybe-controversial opinion about this isekai hit.
Naofumi: More Relatable Than We Admit?
Okay, hear me out. Naofumi is the Shield Hero. He gets betrayed. He becomes super cynical.
Isn't that, like, a super understandable reaction? Imagine being summoned to another world. Then framed for a crime you didn't commit.
You'd be grumpy too, right? I know I would.
Raphtalia: The Actual Star?
Raphtalia is adorable. She's loyal. She's basically the heart of the entire team. But is she maybe… too perfect?
She starts as a timid, sick demi-human. Then becomes a powerful swordswoman almost overnight. It sometimes feels a little convenient.
Don't get me wrong, I love her. But a little more flaw wouldn’t hurt.
Filo: A Gluttonous God Bird, and We Love Her
Filo. The Filolial Queen. A giant bird who loves to eat.
She’s basically a giant, fluffy chicken nugget with world-ending power. What’s not to love? She lightens the mood perfectly.
I would protect her with my life, even if she ate all my snacks.
The Other Heroes: Utterly Useless (Mostly)
Motoyasu, Ren, and Itsuki. The Spear, Sword, and Bow Heroes. They are, for the most part, completely incompetent.
They’re constantly messing things up. They're chasing clout. They refuse to listen to Naofumi. It's almost painful to watch.
Maybe that's the point? Maybe Aneko Yusagi, the author, is making a statement about ego and leadership.
The Plot: Let's Be Honest, It's A Bit…Messy
The waves, the political intrigue, the ancient artifacts. The plot gets complicated. It's so easy to get lost in the world.
Sometimes it feels like there are too many moving parts. It becomes hard to keep track of everything. This made me feel confused sometimes.
But hey, at least it's never boring!
The Real Villain: Society Itself?
The Kingdom of Melromarc is messed up. The nobles are corrupt. The people are prejudiced. The system is rigged.
Maybe the real villain of the series isn't a single person. It's the rotten society that allows injustice to thrive.
That's some real food for thought, isn't it?
Overall: Still Worth the Watch?
Despite its flaws, I think The Rising of the Shield Hero is entertaining.
The characters are memorable. The action is solid. The world-building is intriguing.
Plus, seeing Naofumi overcome adversity is always satisfying. Even if he does it with a scowl on his face.
So, Should You Watch It?
Yes! Absolutely! Just go into it knowing it's not perfect.
Embrace the grumpiness. Appreciate the fluffy bird. Question the morality of everyone involved.
And maybe, just maybe, you'll find yourself agreeing with my unpopular opinions.
