Okay, let's talk Cardinal. That moody, snowy Canadian crime drama. Remember John Cardinal and Lise Delorme? Great characters, right?
We binged it. We loved it. But... season 5? Hmmm.
The Case of the Missing Season 5
Let's be honest. The show wrapped up pretty neatly. Each season tackled a new, self-contained mystery.
They solved the last case. The loose ends? Tied up. Cardinal and Delorme found some semblance of peace.
Could they dredge up another dark secret from the Canadian wilderness? Maybe. But should they?
My (Unpopular) Opinion: Let It Go!
Here's where I might lose some of you. I don't want a season 5. Gasp! I know, I know.
Hear me out. Some shows overstay their welcome. They milk the premise until it's a pale, watery imitation of its former glory.
Cardinal gave us four solid, compelling seasons. Let's remember it that way. Let's not risk tarnishing its reputation with a forced continuation.
Besides, how much more snow can Billy Campbell realistically trudge through? The man deserves a vacation on a tropical beach!
But... Never Say Never?
Of course, anything is possible in the world of television. Reboots are everywhere. Spin-offs are popping up like mushrooms after a rain.
Maybe they could do a prequel? Young Cardinal solving crimes in his rookie days? That could be interesting.
Or perhaps a spin-off focusing on another detective in Algonquin Bay? Exploring different facets of small-town crime?
But honestly? I’d prefer they left Algonquin Bay alone. Let the wolves howl in peace. Let the snow fall undisturbed.
And let Cardinal and Delorme ride off into the sunset, their cases closed, their secrets buried... at least for now.
The Evidence Suggests...
There's been no official announcement about a season 5. No whispers from the cast or crew. No cryptic social media posts hinting at a revival.
Typically, if a new season were in the works, we'd have heard something by now. So, the silence is pretty deafening.
Add to that the fact that the fourth season was marketed as the final season, and it's not looking good for the "more Cardinal" crowd.
My Verdict? Case Closed (Probably)
While a small part of me will always wonder "what if?", I'm content with how Cardinal ended. It was a complete story.
And sometimes, the best thing you can do is know when to say goodbye.
"The end is always the beginning."... or something like that.
So, will there be a season 5? My money is on "no." And honestly? I'm okay with that.
Let's appreciate what we had. Let's re-watch the existing seasons. And let's dream up our own (completely unofficial) endings for our favorite detectives.
After all, isn't that half the fun of watching a good crime drama?
